West African nations unite to enter London Nines.
Nigeria Rugby League Association and Ghana Rugby League have formed a partnership to enter a combined team into the London 9s under the name “West Africa United” on the 25th August.
The competition will have international teams coming from places as far as Australia, USA, Serbia and Lithuania.
“The London 9’s is both and exciting and important opportunity for Ghanaian based rugby league players in the UK to be part of the National Team Selection pathway. We know we have a number of players who are eligible and we are looking forward to working alongside Nigeria to showcase some of the talent we have on offer. Many thanks go to Ade Adebisi and the Ghana Rugby League Federation for helping us to support this great project”. Said Andy Gilvary, Ghana Head Coach.
Ade Adebisi, Nigerian Vice-Chairman added: “Its exciting to think in a few months an African representative team could be playing the likes of RedStar Belgrade or a team from the USA or Lithuania. This is the kind of event that could capture the imagination of Londoners and bring attention to the game in city. With over 1 million Nigerian living in London this could really take the game to a new audience in one of the world’s most important cities.”
