The Northern Conference of the Nigerian Rugby League Championship kicks off again next weekend, with the current national holder Kano Lions will be facing Jos Miners and Zazzau bulls will be facing Gazelle. The game which is slated for the 1oth of July will see four teams looking forward to winning this year’s title at the northern conference.
Chairman of the Nigeria Rugby League Association (NRLA), Abiodun Olawale Cole, noted: “I would like to thank all the executives, members and fans of NRLA for getting us this far, especially after such a difficult time throughout the world. Our efforts locally and internationally shall see Nigeria take its place amongst the great nations of the international rugby league.” “I would also thank the effort of the boys here in the South on what they have put in despite the pandemic.”
Furthermore, Director of Strategy and Planning, Nigeria Rugby League Association, NRLA, Michael Ogunbiyi stated that he is excited to see all the hard work pay off. “Nigeria Rugby League Association is very excited to see all our hard work pay off as we officially launch the 2021 season in the North, kicking off with the Northern conference.” Vice-Chairman and General Manager, Nigeria Rugby League Association (NRLA), Ade Adebisi, added that it’s great to see all teams expand their reach this year. “We are certainly in for a hard-fought men’s competition this year with many players far more experienced than in the maiden season in 2019 and desperate to get back to playing.”
Martin Crawford (OBE) NRLA Trustee “We are very excited to kick off the season in the North as all four teams head to Plateau State Saturday. I would like to thank NRLA for their financial support and look forward to hosting the finals in August.” Coach of Kano Lions, Umar Bau has stated that his boys are assured of retaining the title this year. “We are all aware that the Kano lions are the current national holders and it will not be nice of us if we don’t retain the title. Come July as we kick-off, we will definitely make our fans proud.”
In showing his appreciation, Coach Yaro Abubakar of Zazzau Bulls appreciated the effort of the Nigeria Rugby League Association (NRLA) towards their plan for this year league tournament.
